Homework Policy

At SCS, teachers focus on instructional quality and assume responsibility for students’ learning of subject matter during the school day. Students work extremely hard throughout their time at school so homework should be minimal. Instead of spending significant time on home assignments, students are encouraged to be active, pursue their interests and engage in conversations with their families every night.

The school-wide homework policy includes:

● meaningful nightly reading at the student’s independent reading level (minutes/night determined by grade level)

● suggested topics for relevant conversations at home, involving parents as a sounding board for students.

● suggested practice of grade level skills that a student should master throughout the year (i.e. fluency with multiplication facts).
