What is Amplify CKLA?
What is Amplify CKLA?
Amplify CKLA is your child’s 3rd-grade reading and writing program. This year students will make the shift from learning how to read to reading in order to learn.
Amplify CKLA Program consists of two components:
Reading & Content Knowledge: students will read full-length, real books grounded in science and history. These books and passages are meant to build background knowledge and vocabulary.
Writing & Language Skills: Students learn the "mechanics" of language. This includes advanced spelling, grammar, and the writing process.

This year I am challenging my 3rd graders to read 40 or more books! While those numbers may sound intimidating, it's important to know that the challenge is just that—a challenge, not a requirement or a competion.
Why Reading Volume Matters
Just as athletes build strength by practicing regularly, readers become stronger by reading consistently. Research shows that students who spend more time reading build background knowledge and vocabulary which aid in reading comprehension.
Every child reads at a different pace. Some books are short, while others are lengthy and complex. Some students will read well beyond 40 books, while others may read fewer. The number itself is not the goal.
In this class we will celebrate:
Choosing books independently
Trying new genres and authors
Finishing books and reflecting on them
Developing the habit of reading every day
How to help your child develop a positive relationship with reading...
Read with and to them
Listen to audiobooks
Read around them - read your books where your child can see you reading
Let your child choose his/her books
