While the Foundation engages in most of its' work behind the scenes, here is a recap of some of the events we have held to provide support to our communities!
The Foundation served as the Fiscal Sponsor for the inaugural "Back to School Pop-Up" at the Sunset Station Shopping Center. With the collaboration of the Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Cool J's Water Ice, Salina's Restaurant, and Pink Salon, scholars were able to receive new school supplies, complimentary water ice and pretzels, and a fresh haircut for the first day of school! While this was the first event of its' kind, it surely will not be the last!
The Foundation takes great pride in its' partnership with the Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Since 2018, the Foundation has held a yearly celebration to celebrate the newest recipients of the Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter and Sigma Cares Foundation Scholarships.
The Chapter's Sigma Beta Club, a male mentoring program targeted for students in grades 6-12, is also a beneficiary of the Foundation. Beginning in 2022, this program was expanded to celebrate the induction of new mentees and also celebrate the accomplishments of current members. This evening, known as the "Sigma Scholars" Awards and Recognition Ceremony, is a key programmatic focus of the Foundation.
For much of the past decade, the Foundation, in collaboration with a number of community partners, has held its' annual Golf Outing. This endeavor, maintained in the spirit of unity, has become one of the fastest-growing networking and recreational events in the state.
On a rolling basis, the Foundation often hosts "Pop-Up" gatherings, very aptly known as "Parties with a Purpose." These functions, often held in conjunction with minority-owned small businesses, are an opportunity to fellowship amongst networks while also providing an impact to various worthy causes, which have included schools, social service agencies, community advocacy organizations, and mentoring programs.
In collaboration with our partner organizations (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.) and the Wilmington PAL, the Foundation works to facilitate this program which provides activities, individual gifts, and a continued spirit of cheer during the holiday season.
