A Message from the Principal

I Dear St. Lucy Families,

As we have now settled into the school year and the weather begins to cool, please remember to dress your student appropriately for the forecast each day. We want everyone to be comfortable and prepared as the seasons change.

We had a wonderful day celebrating Grandparents Day on Wednesday! It was truly special to see so many grandparents here sharing this day with their grandchildren. We began with a beautiful Mass and followed it with a lovely reception in the gym. The smiles, hugs, and joy throughout the day were wonderful to see.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the grandparents who were able to attend and make the day so special for our students. I would also like to thank our Home and School Association for all of their hard work in preparing for and hosting this wonderful event. We are very grateful for everything you do for our school community!

Please mark your calendars for another exciting event sponsored by Home and School. Fall Fest will be held on Friday, October 9, from 4:30–7:30 p.m. in the parking lot. There will be games, food, raffle baskets, a bouncy house, and much more. It is sure to be a fun evening for the entire family, and we hope to see everyone there!

There are so many wonderful things happening at school each and every day. We are truly grateful to have your child as part of our school family. Thank you for the confidence and trust you place in us as we have the privilege of educating your sons and daughters. We are blessed to partner with you in helping them grow academically, spiritually, and personally.

Important School Reminders

As we continue to settle into the school year, I would like to remind all families of a few important expectations that help our school day run smoothly and allow our students to begin each day ready to learn.

Please have your child at school and ready to learn by 7:20 a.m. each morning. Being on time is an important part of establishing good habits and showing respect for the learning environment. When students arrive late, it can be disruptive to both their own learning and the learning of their classmates. We need all students here on time and ready to begin the school day at 7:20. Please make every effort to avoid tardies unless there is an unavoidable circumstance. Multiple tardies/unexcused absences will effect the student's ability to participate in extracurricular events like sports, dances and field trips.

I would also like to remind families that Wisconsin state attendance requirements mandate that students attend school during the required school day. We have begun sending truancy letters to families when students have accumulated excessive or habitual absences and tardies. Please make school attendance a priority and ensure that your child is present and on time each day.

Finally, please do not order DoorDash or bring fast food into school for your child during the school day or after school care. While we understand that schedules can occasionally be challenging, outside food deliveries and fast food brought into school can create unnecessary distractions for students and disrupt the school environment. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school day focused on learning.

Thank you for your partnership and for helping us maintain a positive, orderly, and productive learning environment for all of our students.

A Reminder About Uniforms

Please take a moment to review our uniform policy and help your children come to school dressed according to the guidelines.

Slacks: Plain navy or khaki slacks may be worn by boys and girls with a belt.
Grades K4–4: Students may wear the green plaid uniform jumpers.
Grades 5–8: The only skirts permitted are the official uniform green plaid skirts.
Polo shirts: Students may wear long- or short-sleeved polo shirts in navy blue, true red, hunter green, or white.

Picture day is Tuesday September 29th. Students do not need to wear their uniform if they dress up for their picture.

Morning Drop-Off & Afternoon Pick-Up

Please review our drop-off and pick-up procedures. Safety needs to be our number-one priority, especially during these busy times when we have a large number of students, parents, and vehicles moving through the school grounds.

Morning Drop-Off

In the morning, please enter slowly through the east drive and watch carefully for pedestrians.

Our K3–K5 students will enter through the first door.
Students in grades 1–8 will enter through the playground doors.
After dropping off your child, please continue to circle around and exit through the southeast drive.
Please drive slowly and be especially aware of students and families crossing through the parking areas.

Afternoon Pick-Up

For afternoon dismissal, please park only in the designated parking spots and pull all the way through.

An important reminder: Please do not back out of your parking spot during dismissal. We ask that everyone pull forward when leaving.

If there is a car in front of you, please patiently wait until that vehicle is able to pull out. Once they move, simply follow forward.

This process helps eliminate the risk of a vehicle backing into another car—or, more importantly, backing into a student or parent.

Please be safe and patient during both drop-off and pick-up. Every school has its logistical challenges when it comes to arrival and dismissal, and we certainly have ours. However, if we are safe, patient, and respectful of one another, we can make these times run much more smoothly.

“Plant Peace Project”

The statue of Our Lady and Baby Jesus inside the playground doors is being cleaned and renovated. So far she has one peace plant and needs 5 more large pots and 2 small. Additionally, we are seeking two volunteers to assist in cleaning her (easy and time consuming). Please contact Coach Bodi if you are interested.

“Maybe”

“Maybe” is a magic word. If a task seems too daunting to tackle, change your inner language. Instead of thinking, “I can’t, it is too hard.” Change your thought to, “Maybe I can, maybe I can’t, but I will try.” This allows your brain to search for both outcomes instead of one. Sometimes the words, “I can do anything!” is too big of a jump for our confidence to allow. You might just need a “maybe” for it to work.
