5th Grade Band--This is our beginning band. During their 5th grade year, in the first quarter, students are exposed to music, and art. They will be introduced to the different instruments available and then will get to try them. Based on a music aptitude test and how they can produce sound on the mouthpiece, students will then be placed with the instrument the instructor believes is the best fit for success. During the 2nd quarter, students will choose between band, chorus, and art. If students band and/or chorus, they will not be able to participate in the art classes. The band will work to perform a spring concert.
Concepts covered in 5th Grade Band include, note reading, basic rhythms and other musical concepts.
6th Grade Band--6th Grade Band picks up where the 5th Grade Band leaves off from the previous year. Students do a review in the first quarter, but quickly move on to perform a fall concert and a spring concert. They may also participate in the IESA Organization Contest held each spring. Students will start to participate in the IESA Solo and Ensemble contest held each spring as well.
