Designed to introduce students to Spanish language and culture, Spanish I courses emphasize basic grammar and syntax, simple vocabulary, and the spoken accent so that students can read, write, speak, and understand the language at a basic level within predictable areas of need, using customary courtesies and conventions. Spanish culture is introduced through the art, literature, customs, and history of Spanish-speaking people.
We will also work on developing study and organization skills for success in high school.
This course is open to all students in grades 9-12.
Situations, topics, vocabulary, and language patterns learned in Spanish I are recycled in somewhat different contexts and arrangement in order to form a smooth transition from Spanish I. Students continue grammar study stressing the major stages with emphasis on comprehension and production of speech. As in Spanish I, meaning and communication are stressed.
We will also work on developing skills and organization habits to prepare students for upper-level high school classes.
Spanish II is available to anyone in grades 10-12 who has completed Spanish I with a C or higher.
Emphasis is mastery of structure and vocabulary. Reading skills are challenged with selections of Spanish and Latin American literature. This course is designed to bring students from the novice level of oral proficiency to the intermediate level where they will: create with language, participate in challenging conversations and communicate successfully in basic survival situations.
We will also work on developing study and organization skills for success in college and employment.
Spanish III is available to anyone in grades 11 or 12 who has completed Spanish II with a C or higher.
Spanish IV is available to anyone in Grade 12 who has completed Spanish III with a C or higher.
