Pioneers of Civilian Flight

The period from the late 1920s to the beginning of World War II witnessed a rise of flight as a mode of transportation, exploration, and recreation. Civilian pilots who took on new challenges during the Golden Age of Flight paved the way for growing technological improvements.

Civil aviators, such as Anne Lindbergh and Jerrie Mock, also made cultural impacts during their exploratory and recreational flights. Amelia Earhart used her experience to promote aviation and women's issues across the country through lectures and organizations, most notably the Ninety Nines, Inc.
