Pioneers of Aerobatic Flight
Aerobatic flight is a type of flying in which a pilot performs precision maneuvers. Aerobatic pilots have been flying for fun, competition, or air show performance since the early days of "barnstorming". Pilots learn the precise nature of each maneuver and the limits of their aircraft through constant practice. This discipline allows them to enjoy unusual attitudes and the exhilaration of aerobatic flight.
From Bessie Coleman, the first African-American female pilot, to Betty Skelton, the person with the most combined aviation and automotive records, women have played large roles in aerobatic flight, breaking records and barriers.
