How can I find out who my child's counselor is?

In most cases, counselors are assigned alphabetically.  Counselors will work with your child for both seventh and eighth grade.  Your child's counselor is listed at the top of their student schedule and on the General Information tab of this website.  

Is there extra help?

Extra help will be announced by your child's teachers.  Extra help is held in the mornings at 7:15 am or after school at 3:00 pm.  

There is Homework Help every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 - 4:00 pm for all students.  Students are expected to be picked up in the front of the school building promptly at 4 pm or take the late bus at 4:20pm.  Homework Help will begin during the first week of October.  Please listen to our morning announcements for information.

What are the requirements for Honor Roll?

Honor Roll is earned when a student achieves a cumulative average of 85 or higher.  Should your child earn an average higher than 90, they will receive High Honor Roll status.

How do I calculate a cumulative average?

Classes that are taken for a full-period, every day will count twice in an average.  Classes that are taken for a half-period or every other day will count once in an average.

What do I do if my child is absent?

It is important that a parent or guardian call the Attendance Office at 631-812-3740 or 631-812-3700 and push #3 to report an absence first thing in the morning.  Please send an absence note in with your child on the day that they return to be turned in to their homeroom teacher.  Parents can also email absence notes to your child's counselor.

How does my child get missed work if they are absent, in a music lesson or receiving an in-school service?

The best way to get missing assignments is to check the Google Classrooms.  Students can also look at Google Websites, email the teacher or a friend to find out what needs to be made up.  In the event that your child is out for three or more days, please contact your school counselor for assistance in attaining schoolwork.

Are tests given on specific days?

Yes.  Our testing schedule is: 

(Primary day is listed first and alternate day is listed second.)

Math: Thursday or Tuesday

Science, Health, Technology: Tuesday or Thursday

Social Studies: Friday or Wednesday

English, ESL: Wednesday or Friday

World Languages: Monday or Friday

How can I access my child's grades?

Throughout the year, there are four Report Cards.  They are posted on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal every 10 weeks.  Grades that your child receives during the quarter on homework, tests, quizzes, labs, etc. are also available on the Portal for you to review daily.  Information on accessing the Parent Portal is available on the "General Information" tab.

If you are concerned about your child's progress during the quarter, please reach out to the teacher for more information.

How can I best stay in the loop with Stimson and my child's teachers?

Infinite Campus Parent Portal - Parents and students should check the Parent Portal on a regular basis.  It is the most efficient way to keep track of student progress.

Google Classroom - Parents should ask their child for their Google Classroom password.  This allows parents to see assignment due dates, classwork and testing information. 

ParentSquare - A useful tool that allows parents and guardians to receive all announcements from the District, their children’s schools and teachers in one place.  Parents and teachers can also communicate directly with each other through the ParentSquare messaging system.

Stimson Homepage - Daily announcements are posted to assist parents in staying "in the loop."  In addition, staff contact information is shared, important dates are listed and  video announcements are available to view.

How can I contact my child's teachers?

The best way to reach a teacher directly is by sending a message through email or ParentSquare.  Staff contact information can be found on the "General Information" tab.  Scroll down and click "Stimson Homepage."  Parents can also leave a message in the Main Office at 631-812-3700.

What are the requirements for National Junior Honor Society?

In order to be invited to NJHS, a student must earn an unrounded average of 90.0 or higher for the first and second quarter of each school year.  If this criteria is met, they will receive an application packet from the supervisors of NJHS.  For more information, please refer to your child's agenda book or reach out to Mrs. Voorhees or Ms. Wyhowanec.

We are moving in to the district.  Where do we register?

Your first stop should be at the JKAO District Office located at 60 Weston Street.  The phone number is 631-812-3180.  Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Are there late buses?

We'll have two late bus runs beginning Monday 9/11.  The first run will depart Stimson at 4:20pm and the second will depart at 5:15pm.  Students must attend a supervised after school event to take the late buses.  Students must complete the Google Form (in grade level classrooms) each time they are taking the late bus.  If an after school activity ends by 4:20, those students must take the first late bus.  Any other students who need transportation will take the second late bus run at 5:15pm.

¿Cómo puedo saber quién es el consejero de mi hijo?

¿Cómo calculo un promedio cumulativo?

Las clases que se toman por un período completo, todos los días contarán dos veces en un promedio. Las clases que se toman por medio período o cada dos días contarán una vez en un promedio.

¿Qué hago si mi hijo está ausente?

Es importante que un padre o guardián llame a la Oficina de Asistencia al (631) 812-3740 o al (631) 812-3700 y presione el número 3 para informarles de una ausencia lo antes posible en la mañana. Envíe una nota explicando la razón por la ausencia con su hijo el día que regrese, para que se la entreguen a su maestro de homeroom (la clase antes del primer período). Los padres también pueden enviar notas de ausencia por correo electrónico al consejero de su hijo.

¿Cómo puede mi hijo recibir el trabajo que faltó si está ausente, en una lección de música o recibiendo un servicio en la escuela?

La mejor manera de obtener las tareas que faltó es consultar Google Classrooms. Los estudiantes también pueden consultar los sitios web de Google, enviar un correo electrónico al maestro o a un amigo para averiguar qué tiene que entregar. En el caso de que su hijo esté ausente por tres días o más, comuníquese con su consejero de escuela para que le ayude a obtener las tareas.

¿Cómo puedo acceder a las calificaciones de mi hijo?

¿Hay autobuses retrasados?

Tendremos dos recorridos de autobús tardíos a partir del lunes 11 de Septiembre. El primer autobús saldrá de Stimson a las 4:20 p.m. y el segundo saldrá a las 5:15 p.m. Los estudiantes deben asistir a un evento supervisado después de clases para tomar los autobuses que llegan tarde. Los estudiantes deben completar el formulario de Google cada vez que tomen el autobús tardío. Si una actividad después de clases termina a las 4:20, esos estudiantes deben tomar el primer autobús que llegue tarde.
