Reader's Workshop

Make sure that when you are reading a book, it is "just right" for you!

Pick a book that interests you.

Then think of the "Goldilock's Rule" and check that it's not too easy or too hard!

Too Easy

I know all the words on the page.

I can finish the whole book very quickly.

It does not interest me anymore.

Just Right

There are less than 5 words on a page that I don't know.

I can figure out tricky words.

I can retell what's happening in the story.

Too Hard

There are more than 5 words on a page that I don't know.

I need help reading it.

I sound like a robot when I read.

Helpful Reading Strategies

When Reading at Home

Ask yourself:

-Does this make sense?

-Does this sound right?

-Does it look right?

Tell a friend or family member about your favorite part!

Guess what will happen next before you read it.

Pretend you're in the story! What would you do differently?

Think of a new ending to the story.

If the story continued after the ending, what do you think would happen next? What would make sense?

Do you recognize anything from the story? Has it happened in your life? Could it happen in real life?
