Science:
Students will continue using Amplify to explore scientific concepts. In 5th grade the units are as follows: Modeling Matter, Ecosystem Restoration, Patterns of Earth & Sky and The Earth System. Throughout the units students will be presented with a real life scenario (phenomenon), and given artifacts (experiments, simulators, visuals) to interact with as well as readings to provide background knowledge. Students will show understanding by writing scientific arguments.
Social Studies:
In 5th grade we will focus on studying The Western Hemisphere (North & South America). The curriculum covers the five themes of geography (location, place, region, movement, human-environment interaction), and integrates reading comprehension throughout. Most the work will be done online, through reading online articles, activity packets, videos and other forms of multimedia. During the spring, students will work on a long-term project called the State Fair (see examples below). More details to follow!
