In May-June students will use all skills and strategies taught to read a variety of both fiction and non-fiction texts to:
analyze and determine the author's reason for writing (the theme or message)
evaluate topics and themes across multiple texts
Students will be assessed through iReady diagnostics and lessons, tri-annual reading level assessments, writing pieces and classroom work.
iReady Math:
Unit 1: Whole Number Operations and Applications: Volume, Multiplication and Division
· Students will use their knowledge of area and perimeter to understand and solve volume problems.
· Students will build on understanding of multiplying two-digit numbers and dividing with one-digit divisors.
Unit 2: Decimals and Fractions: Place Value, Addition and Subtraction
· Students will build on their knowledge of working with decimals to the tenths and hundredths place to solve problems with decimals to the thousandths.
· Students will use their understanding of equivalent fractions and addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators to work on addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators.
Unit 3: More Decimals and Fractions: Multiplication and Division
· Students build on their understanding of multiplying and dividing fractions to solve more complex problems.
Unit 4: Measurement, Data and Geometry: Converting Units, Using Data and Classifying Figures
· Students use their understanding of multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals to convert measurement units.
· Students will use familiarity of line plots to show measurements involving fractions with unlike denominators.
· Students will build on their understanding of shapes, and how to classify quadrilaterals and triangles.
Unit 5: Algebraic Thinking and the Coordinate Plane: Expressions, Graphing Points, Patterns and Relationships
· Students evaluate, write and solve algebraic expressions.
· Students learn about the coordinate plain (x,y), write and graph ordered pairs of points, and find the vertical and horizontal distance between points.
Students will be assessed through iReady diagnostics and lessons, iReady Classroom lesson quizzes, unit tests and classroom work.
