STUDIO in ART Ms. Tinucci

Studio in Art is a foundation course that provides an introduction to art through a multimedia experience. This is a full-year visual art course that satisfies the NYS arts requirement for high school graduation. This course serves as a prerequisite which is designed for students beginning their study of art on the high school level and will focus on fundamental drawing skills, color theory, and basic concepts, media, and techniques. Students will learn and apply the elements and principles of design to produce creative art projects that reflect their understanding of these concepts while exposing students to a variety of media to develop the skills for further art study. Students are encouraged to develop individual responses and solutions to concepts and projects presented in class and in Google Classroom.


Students will learn the following:

  • Recognize the Elements & Principles of Art & Design in a composition

  • The proper care of equipment and supplies

  • Line, Contour, Expressive Line

  • Shape, Positive and Negative Space

  • Form, Cross-Contour, Gesture/Life Drawing

  • Value & Contrast

  • Color (Hue, Value, Saturation, Temperature)

  • Spatial Depth and Linear Perspective

  • Pictorial Space, Atmospheric/Aerial Perspective

  • Three-Dimensional Form

  • Collage/Printmaking

  • Critique, Assessment & Exhibition

  • Art History, Contemporary Art

  • Technology, Online Portfolios & Galleries

Daily Expectations

  • Use your class time wisely and work on the project at hand.

  • Submit any completed on-line assignments to Google Classroom

Grading

Your grade in art will come from the following:

  • Doing what is assigned and meeting the objectives of the project.

  • Your finished piece of work and the originality of your work.

  • Being neat and careful.

  • Using your class time wisely.

  • Going above and beyond the project assigned (creativity)

  • Using your ability to the fullest.

  • ALL assignments must be completed on or before the due date.

  • Incomplete/unfinished/overdue work will be graded accordingly.

  • If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up all the work.

  • Assignments will have a rubric with specific requirements and guidelines...PLEASE FOLLOW THE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS & GUIDELINES .

  • Unless an assignment specifically requires copying, it will be interpreted in the same manner as plagiarism...no tracing or copying works of art.


  • Projects: 80%

Specific criteria for each, which includes effort, creativity, and craftsmanship

  • Class Participation: 20%

Attendance, discussion, and critique activity, Quizzes, being on task and daily class preparation AND submission of online assignments as well as, work habits, effort and time management



Supply List


  • Mixed Media -Pad - 9'' x12''

  • Graphite Pencils 2H, 4H, H, HB, 2B, and 6B

  • White Eraser

  • Ultra Fine Tip Black Marker and Fine tip Black Marker(Sharpies)

  • Watercolor Brush size 8

  • Zip Lock bag or pencil case

  • Colored pencils (Prismacolor Berol ONLY)


You may find the supplies sold at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby craft stores. They might have 40% off coupons on their websites or in the newspaper, which is especially useful for the purchase of Prismacolor colored pencils and acrylic paints. They will scan coupons from your phone in the store.






Classroom Rules Ms. Tinucci

  • Come to class on time. You must be in your seat before the bell rings.(Dropping your things & leaving, does not qualify as being on time).


  • Sit in your assigned seat and do not walk around the classroom unless otherwise specified.


  • No talking during lectures, demonstrations, or presentations.


  • Be prepared for class (pencils, sketchbook, apron).


  • Proper clean-up and use of materials is mandatory. You are responsible for caring for the materials/supplies used and cleaning up your work space.


  • Listen, watch, and follow the directions.


  • Class participation is an integral part of your grade. Utilize class time efficiently!!!! Your grade will include your in-class studio participation AND assignments submitted to Google Classroom.

*ASSIGNMENTS ARE TO BE COMPLETED ON TIME IN CLASS AS WELL AS ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM. EVERYDAY LATE WILL RESULT IN A LESSER GRADE. A procedure grade based on class participation will be averaged in every quarter.


  • Remain seated until the bell rings.


  • Respect others and artworks of others. Encourage your fellow classmates in a positive way ...treat them fairly and with kindness. The art room will be a comfortable and fun place for everyone.


  • NO FOOD, DRINK OR BAGS OF ANY KIND ON WORK SURFACES!!!!
