Where are we going?
For over forty years, the sixth grade in South Hadley has traveled to Cape Cod in the spring for a three-day, two-night field trip. We will be based in Brewster, Massachusetts, but we will travel the length of Cape Cod, from the Cape Cod Canal to Provincetown. We will also visit Coast Guard Beach, Nauset Beach and the Museum of Natural History in Brewster.
Where are we staying?
We will stay at the Cape Cod Sea Camps of Brewster. To see what the camp looks like (in the summer), please visit www.capecodseacamps.com.
Where will we eat?
All meals, except the first lunch which will be a brown bag lunch, are included in the cost of the trip. Most of our meals will be at the Sea Camps, which provides good cafeteria-style dining for us. We will also go to a restaurant on our way back from the whale watch.
When are we going?
All sixth graders will travel from Monday, June 4th – Wednesday, June 6th. The trip will leave the school Monday morning at approximately 6:00 a.m. and will return to the school Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m.
How much will the trip cost?
The trip will cost $250 for each student. We are committed to taking every sixth grade student on this trip, so financial aid is available to students who qualify. Contact Mrs. Craven, preferably by email (bcraven@shschools.com), with questions or concerns. Below is a suggested payment plan that you may choose to follow after your initial non-refundable deposit of $50 by November 15th.
$50 JAN 2nd - $50 FEB 1st - $50 MARCH 1st - $50 - APRIL 2nd
Please make all checks payable to MESMS
(You can also pay in full by April 1st.)
What will we do on the trip?
This trip has a long history. There have been a variety of different outdoor educational activities in which the students have participated. Some of the activities this year may include archery, a visit to the Cape Cod Natural History Museum, a tour of the Nauset Lighthouse, a visit to the Marconi Wireless Museum, and a whale watch from Provincetown.
What about chaperones?
We want to take approximately 20 - 25 parent chaperones, including one nurse. There is a cost of $250 for all chaperones (except the nurses, who will travel for free). All chaperones have to pass a CORI check and be fingerprinted before we can take you. There will be a meeting for all parent chaperones before we leave so that chaperones understand the expectations.
