The intent of any letter of recommendation is to highlight the strengths of a student and to note or explain any circumstances affecting a student's high school experience. Teacher letters of recommendation focus on the student strengths as a learner in their classrooms and may include specific examples of projects, assignments, memorable discussion, work ethic, and more.
To assist your counselor in writing your letter, follow these steps.
Go to Surveys in your SCOIR account.
Complete the the Bio Survey and hit submit.
Meet with your counselor at least 10 school days in advance of your earliest deadline to review your Bio Survey and complete your application materials.
Have your parents/guardians fill out the Parent Brag Sheet, below
To request a recommendation from a teacher, follow these steps.
Ask them in person first!
Go to the My Colleges page in SCOIR.
Click Application Documents and then the Request a Recommendation button
Search for the teacher you’re requesting to provide a recommendation.
Specify whether or not you’d like the recommendation to be for a specific college.
Compose the request by editing the Subject and the Message.
Once you’re finished, click Send
Your teacher may ask you to fill out a 'bio' sheet. They may provide you one, or you may use the one here.
Please note:
It is customary to allow one month for teachers and counselors to write letters, please be mindful of deadlines.
Letters of recommendation are not shared with students and families. Letters are uploaded directly to a student's SCOIR account, and then sent via electronic submission to colleges and universities.
