This is the Shrewsbury High School Local Scholarship Application. This application is required for many of the local scholarships listed below. Make sure to read the requirements in each scholarship description.
The Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of Commerce Scholarship
Award: a total of $16,600 in scholarships
Deadline: March 3, 2023
Eligibility: Applicant must be a 2023 graduating high school student, pursuing a business degree or trade certification, and resides in one of the core towns of the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of Commerce (Westborough, Northborough, Southborough, and Shrewsbury). Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership, work and/or internship experience, essay, financial need, and appearance of application.

Eligibility: These scholarships are awarded based on community involvement, good citizenship, volunteer work inside and outside of school, a recommendation from an advisor or guidance counselor, financial need, and a statement of personal goals and aspirations.

Requirements:
1. The applicant must be a current SHS senior and have been a member of one or more regularly scheduled major performing group (Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, or Theater) for at least three (3) of their high school years, including credit from other schools for students who have transferred to SHS.
2. The applicant must be accepted to an accredited four (4) year college, university, or performing arts conservatory.
Rotary Club of Shrewsbury
Deadline: March 24, 2023

The following is required to apply for this scholarship:
1. Complete the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury Scholarship Application (attached to this notice).
2. Provide one sealed letter of recommendation. Please don't submit more than two letters of recommendation.
3. Request a transcript from your guidance office and include it in your application or have it sent electronically to don.harbert@gmail.com
4. Include the essay requested at the bottom of the Application form.
5. Please include your email address and telephone number as requested on the form.

Shrewsbury Historical Society

The Shrewsbury Historical Society is pleased to announce two scholarships for Class of 2023 high school seniors who attend public or private high schools in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and reside in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Each scholarship award is $500. The Shrewsbury Historical Society Stephen Porter Scholarship is awarded in memory of Stephen Porter, a longtime member who was involved in the restoration of the District #5 Schoolhouse. The Shrewsbury Historical Society Jean McDonald Graham Scholarship is awarded in memory of Jean Graham, a longtime member dedicated to educating students about local history. Students who are currently seniors in high school in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, reside here, and anticipate being accepted into a four-year college this spring are invited to apply for the scholarships.

Description: The Dorothy F. Erwin Memorial Scholarship has been established in memory of Mrs. Erwin, who was a substitute nurse in the Shrewsbury Public Schools.
Requirements: Graduating senior, planning a career in nursing or another health care career, essay, academic performance, extra curricular involvement and need will be considered.

Description: A scholarship has been created in the memory of Agnes Wyman. The Agnes Wyman Memorial Scholarship has been instituted to assist worthy young men and women who are seniors at SHS as they pursue post-high school education. 3 scholarships will be given out at $500 each.

The Allison Elizabeth Lustig Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship to be awarded to a Shrewsbury High School Senior who meets the following requirements:
A student who is planning to attend a four-year college or university
A student who has shown an active interest in children through course selection, college major, extracurricular activities, and/or work experience
A student who has demonstrated characteristics of integrity, dependability, cooperation, and consideration of others
A student who has received little or no financial assistance from other sources

Description: A scholarship has been created by the Kane family in the memory of their daughter Caroline Libby Kane. The Caroline Libby Kane Memorial Scholarship provides assistance for post secondary education to a graduating female senior who has demonstrated a positive spirit and a joy of life through activities and made a substantive contribution to the Shrewsbury schools, the greater community, and to her family.

Description: The Jacob M. Boudreau Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Jacob Boudreau, a 7th grader at Oak Middle School who passed away in 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jacob would have been a member of the SHS Class of 2015. Jacob was known for his bravery, determination, and zest for life.
Requirements: Plan to further your education at a two or four year college, vocational or technical school. Participation in extra curricular activities and/or community service involvement, preferably with charitable organizations. Character should exemplify motivation, good citizenship, and perseverance. Description: PFC Brian Moquin Jr. was a former student of Shrewsbury Public Schools who loved art, music, poetry and always lived life to the fullest. At the age of 18, he proudly and bravely enlisted in the Army. In March of 2005, he was assigned to the 71st Cavalry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division Fort Drum, New York. Brian was tragically killed along with 9 other soldiers on May 5, 2006 when their helicopter crashed during combat operations in Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom.
Requirements: Any senior from the Town of Shrewsbury is eligible. Applicants do not need to be pursuing the military in the future. Common Scholarship Application, write a poem ("What Freedom Means to Me"), Transcript, and a Letter of Recommendation.

ChinHuei Yeh Memorial Scholarship

Description: A scholarship has been created in memory of ChinHuei Yeh, who was a beloved Mandarin Chinese Language teacher in the Shrewsbury Public School district from 2009 until 2022. Yehlaoshi, as she was known to her students, taught Mandarin at all levels and was a mentor to her students in all aspects of life, even after they graduated from SHS. She believed in supporting her students and encouraging them to become lifelong learners. Her family would like to honor her dedication to her students by establishing this scholarship. Her family would like to extend a thank you to the World Language Department for their financial contribution to this scholarship this year.
Criteria: A graduating senior who had taken a class with Yehlaoshi and is planning on attending a four year college in the fall.
Requirements: Complete the Common Scholarship Application (above), essay no shorter than 500 words with applicant's choice of the following prompts:
1. Tell us how you plan to incorporate being a lifelong learner in your future plans?
2. How has learning Mandarin Chinese affected you? What was a favorite classroom memory?

Vietnam Veterans Community Scholarship

The Dr. Ken Hsu Memorial Trust

Award: Two annual scholarships of $1000 each year
Dr. Ken Hsu was a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, a renowned scholar in the field of mathematics and engineering and a longtime supporter of the Shrewsbury public school system. Ken always believed in a strong educational foundation in math and science and always wanted to support students who had a passion to pursue those disciplines in college and beyond. Awarded to a graduating Shrewsbury High School senior who plans to attend college and study in the fields of the sciences, technology, engineering or math.
