September 11, 2025
Dear Middle School Community,
We began our first full week of school with much excitement. In an English class, Gr. 8 students were beginning to answer the question “This, I believe.” In a history class, our young 6th graders were entering the world of Turkey, exploring Gobekli Tepe, an archaeological wonder that challenges us to rethink our understanding of the historical timeline. In between classes, there were multiple games happening in the quad. Some were playing football, some basketball, and yet others were exploring flower beds…how they keep track of each other while sharing one space bewilders me. And it makes me smile.
I look forward to seeing you this evening at Back-to-School Night. This is the first of many opportunities to gather as one community. Later this month, I invite you to our first monthly Parent Coffee and Conversation. The topic that will anchor our chat: Orientation to Middle School. What are our beloved traditions and what events do you not want to miss? Our special guest at this coffee and conversation will be the academic dean, who will lead a discussion on How to Navigate the Middle School with Your Child.
Much is happening in the Middle School. Please read through the Announcements below for details. I draw your attention to three separate virtual opportunities for ShipleyNet training for parents next week.
I close with commemorating 9/11. We remember those we lost and those who fell. We also remember those who rose. May our collective human spirit, courage, and resistance be as mighty - and as simple - as our will.
Sincerely,
Chantra Reinman
Head of Middle School
