October 23, 2025
Dear Middle School Families,
This week began with a special guest at Assembly, who shared her inspirational story of hope as a breast cancer survivor. Her story was soon followed by the words of a breast cancer surgeon during Flex yesterday. Her message offered the perspective that nothing must ever be looked at in isolation and that we do not work alone. She acknowledged that her work is part of a greater collaboration with researchers, therapists, and volunteers. It is our hope that our speakers this week helped frame the reasons behind the pink ribbons that will be sold this Friday, an initiative led by students. All proceeds go to Metavivor.
I invite you to our Parent Coffee and Conversation next Thursday, October 30 at 8:15 am at Beechwood House (on Lower Campus). Please join me and our counselor as we discuss the unique social-emotional development of middle school aged children. Please also save November 7 on your calendar for the Learning Child: MS Speaker Series. I will present on memory and attention, and their impact on learning.
I look forward to the MS Mini Fall Festival next week, as our building turns into a fall wonderland of dragons, pumpkins, and flying bats! I offer sincere gratitude for our lead parent coordinators and all our parents for helping make Fall exciting and sweet. Please join the fun on Monday afternoon in decorating the Community Room and again on Friday for Trunk-or-Treat. Nothing beats getting donuts and cider out of the trunk of a fantastically decorated car!
At Shipley, we do not work alone, indeed.
Sincerely,
Chantra Reinman
Head of Middle School

Please note we ask parents/guardians to come in the building to sign the student out. The student should be picked up from the MS circle so they can wait at the front desk until their ride arrives.
EMERGENCY MEDICATIONS AT SPORTS REMINDER
A friendly reminder if your student has an EpiPen or rescue inhaler to please pack a spare in your student's sports bag for game days!
