Character Ed Assemblies

What do you think about character-ed assemblies?  As one of the student council officers I get the privilege to speak and go out on the floor during these assemblies and they seem very fun. With everyone cheering their student of the month, the children get to feel appreciated and welcomed. I also get to help come up with games that are performed at every assembly. These games are participated by the students of the month and sometimes their friends!

I asked a couple of people what they think about character ed assemblies and most of them were positive. They said things like “you can learn positivity” and “where we can have fun and cheer our classmates on in the games.” I also got feedback that some people don’t like the character-ed assemblies because it is so loud that they get headaches. These things can be fixed if we choose when to react in a loud voice or when not to.

I think that character-ed assemblies are exciting! Getting to celebrate someone for their achievements is always fun. We get to play games and you even get your picture taken as one of the students of the month!

October 2022  Character Assembly

On Thursday morning, October 6, Shiloh Middle School had their first  Character Assembly in a few years. The word of the month was Respect. Principal, Mr. Loepker, announced the Students of the Month. The Students of the Month were :  4th grade: Asa Arnold, Calen Steenberge, and Parker Thomas   5th grade: Raymond Winfrey, Derrick Torres, Harper Hopkins, and Nadilyn Mohler.   6th grade: Brynna Toolen, Jace Shepard,  Gabe Crop, and Ben Homeyer   7th grade: Steven Willis and Kinsley Holzum 8th grade: Vivian Streit, Grant Quayle, and Joseph Boan. Once the students were announced, they each got to pick a friend to play Rock, Paper, Scissors, Hula Hoop. Rock, Paper, Scissors, Hula Hoop is a game in which there are two teams who have to try and make it from one side of the gym to the other side, by jumping through a path of hula hoops. If the players meet, then they must play Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who gets to advance. If they lose, they go to the end of the line. Five kids made it to the other side. Each person who got to the other side got a popsicle during their lunch. While the game was going on, 8th grader Blake Keller was running around the gym starting a wave. At the end of all this, the character students of the month gathered for a picture.
