Hi! I’m Jessica Wylie, an elementary educator with 14 years of experience. In both my professional and personal life, I’m passionate about creativity. I enjoy performing arts, dance, painting, interior design, mosaic-making, and filmmaking. I also love traveling, visiting museums, spending time at Disneyland, and building Legos with my son. My little family of three love exploring Oregon, and we’re enjoying all of the beauty and adventure it offers.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television from Chapman University. After graduation, I spent five exciting years working in the TV industry. While it was an incredible experience, teaching filmmaking to kids during summer breaks showed me that education was where my heart truly lied. To pursue this passion, I earned a teaching degree in elementary education. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of teaching 1st through 5th grades, each experience deepening my commitment to education.
My teaching philosophy is focused on a student-centered approach. I strive to make learning meaningful by connecting it to students' interests and backgrounds. I aim to create immersive experiences where kids can role-play, build things, and relate their learning to the real world. I’m a big fan of flexible seating, and provide cozy reading nooks to help students feel comfortable in their learning environment. Building a strong "class family" where everyone feels valued and included is equally important to me. At SCS, we emphasize using our H.E.A.R.T. skills in everything we do!
I’m excited to be spending my 15th year in third grade and can’t wait to create new memories this school year!
