To participate in Early College, a student must, at minimum:
be in strong academic standing and/or on track to graduate
demonstrate college-readiness skills (self-advocacy, organization, communication, etc.)
be enrolled with SHAPA as a high schooler, 14 years old or older
If you are a current SHAPA student:
Contact your Mentor Teacher and School Counselor to transition into the Early College program.
If you are not a current SHAPA student:
Apply for SHAPA, indicating Early College interest on your application. Our Registrar and your new Mentor Teacher will contact you to get you started with the Early College Process.
A student enrolls with SHAPA and the Early College Program by meeting the enrollment criteria
The student, family, and Early College advisor collaborate to determine the best college and course pathway
The student and Early College advisor complete and submit the initial college paperwork
The student completes the placement testing at their chosen college
The student and Early College advisor complete the college registration process
The student purchases books and begins attending their classes on the college campus
For every Early College student, SHAPA pays for all tuition and fees for up to 12 credits per term. SHAPA also pays for $75 per course in book allotments through the college bookstore, up to a maximum of $225.
