One-Minute Video about Hope Squad
Hope Squad is a peer-to-peer, school-based program that is centered around community and is a suicide prevention tool. The program is all over the nation and is on the Suicide Prevention Resource Center.
Students WILL NOT be trained to be counselors. Students will be trained to recognize the warning signs and symptoms of mental distress and suicidal ideation. In this program, we will teach you how to respond when mental distress and ideation is recognized. While this can be a heavy topic at times, students will be taught about the importance of self-care and healthy boundaries.
Once students are selected, Mrs. Langner and Mrs. Denton will notify students individually. If students are nominated to be a part of the Hope Squad, parent/guardian approval is required. Your parent/guardian must sign a written consent form at the parent meeting. Participation can be declined by the student or parent/guardian. There will be a parent meeting first before any student meeting will take place.
