FAFSA is a free application for federal, state, and institutional grants, work study, and federal student loans. Grants are a type of financial aid that is typically based on financial need and doesn't typically have to be repaid. These funds can come from a variety of resources, like the federal or state government or the college. Work study is a way for students to earn money to help pay for school. Students can get a job through the college to help them earn money to pay for their educational expenses. Student loans are money you borrow to pay for college that must be repaid later with interest.
SENIOR INFO FROM THE COUNSELOR: This is a handout (linked) that I had available at fall parent teacher conferences. It contains a lot of great resources and links including Why File the FAFSA?, How to Create Your StudentAid.gov Account, and Ready to File the FAFSA? Here's What You Need checklist. It also includes a lot of information from the ICAN website, which is a great resource for career and college planning, as well as financial aid. ICAN hosts several virtual events, including a step by step FAFSA walk through. You can even set up an appointment (virtual or in-person) for help with the FAFSA. Let me know if you would like any resources printed out from the ICAN website. There are so many more than what I have linked here!
