Courses for 7th and 8th Grade - Credit Recovery

Course for Credit- Grades 7 and 8

As a strong, well-rounded Summer Learning Program, we have a variety of courses for the Middle School students including credit recovery and advancement opportunities. Our professional staff and strong academic curriculum prepares students for the Common Core standards and the Smarter Balance Assessment. Shelton Public Schools is one of the only Summer Learning programs in the area, as a result we welcome students from other districts.


Humanities--Grades 7-8

Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture. The humanities include the study of ancient and modern languages, literature, philosophy, history, archaeology, anthropology, human geography, law, politics, religion, and art. Students will engage in literary analysis and close reading of nonfiction passages and informational texts. The course focuses on interpretation of literary analysis of informational texts, and the development of oral and written communication skills in standard (formal) English. Analysis of the structure and elements of informational texts and media helps students develop the skills needed for academic success. Students continue to acquire knowledge and skills in grammar, usage, mechanics, and vocabulary. Students that participate in this course will focus on Priority Standards related to the Connecticut Common Core. Students in the course will receive credit for Social Studies OR English.



STEM--Grades 7-8

STEM is an educational approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM, students develop key skills including: problem solving, analytical thinking, creativity and independence. Students that participate in this course will focus on Priority Standards related to the Connecticut Common Core. Students in this course will receive credit for Science OR Math.
