Weekly Themes/Learning Goals

Here's a quick look at the weekly theme, letters of the week, and math concepts we are exposing the students to each week at school.  In addition to this, students will also have individual/small group time to work on IEP goals including speech and occupational therapy as needed.

Learning Goal: Welcome to School!

Stories of the WeekSpot Goes to School by Eric Hill and Maisy Goes to Preschool by Lucy Cousins

Language Development: Students will identify items they will see/interact with throughout the day using Boom Cards. Students will be exposed to the words: school, playground, bathroom, lunch, nap, and bus using LAMP and/or picture symbols from our visual schedule.

Vestibular Exercise: Students will practice walking in a line as we travel to visit the lunchroom and library.

Proprioception Exercise: Students will practice carrying their lunch boxes, water bottles, and school supplies to the table.

Balance Exercise:  Pictures/examples of basic school items will be placed on the floor.  Students will bend to pick up requested images/items while maintaining balance.

Eye/Hand Coordination:  Students will practice throwing away paper/trash by placing it in the garbage can.  We will practice throwing away our lunch trays in the lunchroom.

Cool Down Exercise: Students will sing, "The Wheels on the Bus" and practice the hand motions that go with the song.

Fine Motor Exercise: Students will use dot markers/markers/crayons/paint to color everyday items they will see at school. When appropriate, students will cut out these items and glue them to a poster. When appropriate, students will trace the names of these items on their posters.
