Our Story

COMPETENCY CONNECTIONS began with a question asked by two Shelby County Public School district leaders: How can we construct personal learning networks with other Kentuckiana educators who are exploring Competency Based Education (CBE)?

At Shelby County Public Schools, we believe that competency-based education is what our students need in order to be "life ready." To that end, we have created a Profile of a Graduate and are beginning a new Strategic Leadership Plan. While we are proud of our work so far, we know that for our journey to be successful, we need many learning partners (both inside and outside of Shelby!). We want other educators to have an opportunity to build a CBE cadre and transform what school can be. We want conversations to extend past a single day of a conference. We want to make Competency Connections!

To address those needs, we have a two prong plan. The first is to create face-to-face opportunities to meet and talk. Our first event was on November 6, 2018. Tickets were FREE and open to educators inside and outside the Shelby district.

The second is to have online opportunities to enrich and extend our partnerships and knowledge beyond a single event. This website will be a resource for some of that work, and conversations will also continue on social media with #KyCBEconnect.
