I am working on the ANSURR program for calculating the quality of NMR structures
Marym Albalwi
PhD student
mfalbalwi1*at*sheffield.ac.uk
I am working on the structure and function of the C-terminal end of the SH2B1 β isoform. This includes looking at interactions between the SH2 domain and the natively disordered C-terminal tail.
Mahreen Ul Hassan
PhD student
muhassan1*at*sheffield.ac.uk
I came to Sheffield in 2016 after completing my Masters in Microbiology from Khyber Medical University Peshawar, Pakistan. I aim to understand WxL domain structure and function.
Yashwanth Kumar
PhD student

I started my PhD in 2017. I study how osmolytes affect the structure and stability of the protein barnase using NMR spectroscopy and Calorimetry (DSC, Fluorescence). Previously I have worked on enzyme assays at Anthem Biosciences, India

I am using computer-based techniques (mainly agent based modelling) to understand the nucleation of actin filaments by Las17 (yeast homologue of WASP) at the start of endocytosis. These are supported by experimental measurements of affinities, mainly yusing microscale thermophoresis. I am supervised jointly by Prof Kathryn Ayscough.
Jessica Davis
PhD student

I am working on the enterococcal polysaccharide antigen (EPA), which is a polysaccharide attached to the outer peptidoglycan layer of Enterococcus faecalis, an opportunist gut bacterium. I am using a combination of genetics and NMR to characterise EPA. I am supervised jointly by Stéphane Mesnage.
Fraser Beaumont
PhD student

I am investigating the structure and metal binding of the protein MmsF from the magnetotactic bacterium M. magneticum. This protein is involved in the formation of magnetic particles. I am supervised jointly by Sarah Staniland.
Billy Hobbs
Masters student

I am looking into the best way to fit NMR titration data to obtain dissociation constants. Later this year I will be moving on to a PhD at thhe University of Leeds.
