This forum exists to capture people's experiences of technology-facilitated violence and abuse (TFVA) in any circumstance or in any relationship or dynamic.
TFVA can be defined as the use of technologies to abuse or harass another person and this includes sexual violence as well as domestic and family violence.
TFVA can be carried out through text, images, surveillance and monitoring using a variety of devices and/or platforms such as social media, as well as GPS location tracking and artificial intelligence (AI).
Some behaviours can include (but not limited to):
the non-consensual creation/distribution or threat to distribute images/videos (e.g., so-called 'revenge porn' or 'slut shaming') and using this threat to get money (known as sextortion);
artificial creation of sexualised images (known as deepfakes);
receiving/sending unsolicited images/videos (e.g., sending dick pics, cyberflashing or non-consensual sexting);
cyberstalking or cyber harassment;
non-consensual disclosure of personal information (known as doxxing);
restricting access to technology or taking over your social media accounts;
through monitoring and surveillance (e.g., having CCTV in the home, or trackers on your phone or in your car).
and vehicle- perpetrated abuse (the use of apps within someone's car to track, harass and intimate)
This could include your partner or ex-partner sharing your intimate images, tracking your phone or social media accounts, or your work colleagues harassing you via text or messaging apps. This could also include your friends or family members, or could even a stranger online who threatens to share your intimate images in return for money.
