Dr. Antonino Runci

Research Associate (2021-2023)

Antonino was a Research Associate in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The University of Sheffield, UK. He was supervised by Dr. Brant Walkley and was a member of the Sustainable Materials at Sheffield (CBE) research team.

Antonino worked on waste by-products generated in aluminum dross and scrap processing systems into a raw material feedstock for the manufacture of  Portland cement and modern and innovative low-carbon cements (e.g. alkali-activated and geopolymer cements). This project was an InnovateUK-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership, in collaboration between the University of Sheffield and ALTEK.

In 2022, Antonino completed his PhD at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb, Croatia. His PhD research focused on chloride diffusion and steel corrosion in alkali-activated materials under the supervision of Assistant Prof. Serdar and Prof. Provis. His research was part of the DuRSAAM ITN project and was founded by Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fellowship.

In 2018, Antonino completed his master's degree in Geology at the University of Padua (Italy), working on solid activated slags  and calcium aluminate cement with high cement replacement under the supervision of Prof. Artioli and Dr. Bellotto.
