SPEL - Supporting Parents with Early Literacy
SPEL - Supporting Parents with Early Literacy
SPEL - is a research project carried out by the University of Sheffield. The project aims to explore parental experiences in supporting the early literacy development of children in Reception and Year 1 and the home-school connection.
About me
I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with an MSc in Speech Difficulties from the University of Sheffield. I am a researcher and have worked on various research projects throughout the years including Nuffield Early Language project (NELI: a large-scale randomised control trial investigating the benefits of an early oral language intervention).
I research children's language skills and I am interested in the relationship between spoken and written language as well as early literacy skills and the language and literacy development of multilingual children. I am keen to find ways we can support children with both their spoken language and literacy skills to maximise their participation in everyday life.
I have also been supporting teaching at the University of Sheffield since 2014 when I commenced my role of University Teacher in the department and received the Exceptional Contribution Award (ECA).
