SELSA is a two year programme with a monthly commitment of three to four hours which starts in their second year. The programme has been designed to support a students interests whilst developing the skills that are required to become a future leader.
The programme begins in the September with a two-day long bootcamp. The aim of this crash course in leadership is to introduce members to the programme, to each other and to start to develop their skills through practical activities and challenges.
Across both years of the programme, we offer skill development workshops and online courses which enhance the student's skills. For both years of the programme, we have sessions on self awareness allowing students to understand their strengths and weaknesses and in turn, supports them to become authentic leaders.
Topics include
Working Styles and Drivers
Project Management Techniques
Business Basics 101 (Business Model Canvas)
Change Management
Professionals from a variety of industries, at different stages of their careers, join us to share the benefit of their experience. They bring learning to life with real examples, whilst helping our members begin to build their professional networks.
Although we develop our students through a series of workshops, it is imperative that students have the opportunity to try out their new skills as it further supports their learning. Therefore SELSA members have to complete a minimum of 4 high impact experiences across the two years of the programme. This could include a group project, or other leadership, internship or volunteering. We also have two specific SELSA projects which students can take part in. Check out this webpage for more information.
Regardless of what opportunities our SELSA members take, they are asked to reflect on their skills development using the University mySkills personal development record.
