Research

SCAA staff are leading scholars in Aegean archaeology. Their research is inter-disciplinary and wide-ranging, including:

  • field survey methodologies
  • land use systems
  • territorial expansion and identity construction
  • trade and interaction within and beyond the wider eastern Mediterranean
  • early writing and administrative systems
  • the integration of archaeological material and textual evidence
  • 'ethnoarchaeological' study
  • 'traditional' agriculture in the Aegean
  • crop husbandry, and analysis of plant remains
  • analysis of archaeozoological remains as evidence for the management and consumption of animals
