All modules have a module code (e.g. PSY1001) which lecturers often refer to
Modules are generally worth 10 or 20 credits
Module Organisers are the first point of contact for each module
Core modules are mandatory to be taken by all Psychology students. Optional modules are chosen in addition to core modules to make up the total of 120 credits per academic year (see also Module Choice)
Level 1 constitutes of 5 Core modules worth 100 credits. An additional 20 credits of Optional modules should be chosen during Introduction Week
Level 2 constitutes of 5 Core modules worth 100 credits. An additional 20 credits of Optional modules should be chosen during semester 2 of Level 1
Level 3 constitutes of 2 Core modules worth 60 credits. An additional 60 credits of Optional modules should be chosen during semester 2 of Level 2
BPS accreditation - both the Psycholgy BSc and the Psychology with Employment Experience BSc are accredited against the requirements for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS). In order to be eligible for the GBC students must pass the empirical psychology project (Research project in Level 3) and receive at least a 2.2 degree class overall.
The department will always undertake to run the modules we have advertised, or their equivalent. There may, however, be occasions when this is not possible. Specifically, specialist optional modules may sometimes be discontinued at short notice in response to staffing changes and/or illness. Specialist optional modules also have a set capacity, which may also impose restrictions on student choice. However, alternative places will be available on other optional modules should this occur.
