Module Choice & Registration

All undergraduate students are required to register for each academic year of study (see specific procedures per Level below).

Considerations when choosing optional modules

Although departments make every effort to avoid clashes between the times of lectures in those modules that are likely to be taken together, do bear in mind that your choice of unrestricted modules might be restricted by the following factors:

1. Clashes between times of lectures in different modules

2. Clashes between times of lectures and tutorials / lab classes / seminars in different modules

3. Pre-requisites and co-requisites of modules

4. Availability of places on modules

Many unrestricted modules will have number-capping arrangements owing to restrictions imposed by factors such as lecture theatre sizes and laboratory class numbers.

Level 1

Module choice and Registration (Introduction week)

you will have received information on how to register online before arriving in Sheffield.
Your list of modules, including your choice of optional modules will be confirmed at Registration.
Further details about when and where to attend registration events is sent to you via email by the Student Administration Service.

Level 2

Online module choice (Spring semester)

You complete online module choice and registration during the Spring semester of the previous academic year.
Information about deadlines for completing Online Module Choice (OMC) will be provided a few weeks before it opens [usually during first two weeks of May].
It is essential that you complete Online Module Choice, otherwise you will not be able to register.

Online Registration (after results are released)

you will be notified by email about the registration process when your exam results are released. More information is available at http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration/continuing/module

Level 3

Online module choice (Spring semester)

You will be asked to rank your preference of Level 3 Psychology modules during the Spring semester of the previous academic year
Students will be allocated to modules based on their preferences (no guarantees!) and provide you with an overview of your modules
You must then complete online module choice and registration.
Information about deadlines for completing online module will be provided a few weeks before Online Module Choice (OMC) opens [usually during first three weeks of May].
It is essential that you complete online module choice, otherwise you will not be able to register.

Registration (after results are released)

Online module choice process (Level 2 and Level 3)

Online module choice is the first stage of registration for returning undergraduate students (students going into Level 2 or Level 3). Each year you choose a certain number of credits optional modules for the next academic year (see specific process for each Level below). You need to complete the online module choice process by the published deadline each year [This is usually during the first two weeks of May].

Log in to MUSE during this period to access the online module approval screens.
Your core modules for next year will already be listed when you access the online module approval screens.
You will need to make your choice of optional modules according to advice given to you by your department (guided module lists for each level can be found here).
Online Module Choice is a two-part approval system. Your choice will be approved by both your home department and the department running the module. If your choice is rejected, you will receive an email advising you of the reason.

Students repeating a year

Registration (after resit results are released)

You need to complete the application to repeat a period of study form, and submit this form to the relevant Level administrator.
Further information about your options (e.g., repeating as internal or external student) is normally provided by the Level Administrator.
