Diamond+ Electronics is a collection of tutorials designed to provide you with all the key electronics-related skills that you might need in order to become a successful practical engineer. The resources here are grouped into a number of key sections:
Basic Electrical Knowledge: The theory behind key electronics concepts and components, and the basics of how to use key test equipment.
Practical Skills for Electronics: Some of the basic fundamental skills required for building and testing Electrical/Electronic circuits.
Building and Testing Circuits: Having obtained the essential electrical skills, put these into practice by building some of the most useful electrical circuits.
Using an Arduino: How to programme an Arduino and build electrical circuits that can be controlled by them.
Project Ideas: Push your electrical skills and knowledge further in some more advanced projects.
Engineering undergraduates at the University of Sheffield use these resources to support the work that they do on their degree programmes. They can also attend weekly drop-in sessions on Wednesday afternoons during term time in the Diamond Electronics & Control Lab where they can work through some of the exercises under the guidance and support of lab staff.
You'll need access to a range of electrical components and equipment in order to work through the exercises here. In most cases the equipment is common and very affordable, and online retailers such as Pimoroni, Cool Components and The Pi Hut are good places to go to get hold of the necessary kit. There may be a few exercises however that require more specialist electrical equipment that you may only find in a lab (sorry). It is also possible to perform some of the activities here in simulation, using online tools like Tinkercad.
You can use this resource as-is for your own teaching or you can adapt it to suit your own needs, as long as the full terms of the licence are followed. If you wish to adapt this and would like access to the source material then please contact the author.
