Teaching in the Diamond relies upon the support of Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs): PhD students from across the Engineering Faculty who support academic staff in MEE to deliver practical teaching at scale (typical class sizes of 80-140 students). Effective training of GTAs is therefore crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of this teaching.
The authors here have developed a unique approach to this which ensures the development of GTAs as highly effective teachers, not just demonstrators or helpers.
The training programme presented here can provide GTAs with the opportunity to develop as a teacher and attain professional recognition for this through the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
