We have had the great pleasure of hosting a number of visiting international students over the years!
Supervisor: Prof. Martin Sahlberg (Co-supervisor: Prof Paul F. Henry)
Home institution : Uppsala University, Sweden
Veronica is a PhD student in Inorganic Chemistry at Uppsala University, with a background in materials chemistry and a strong interest in crystallography and functional materials. Her research explores how chemical and structural disorder in high-entropy alloys influences hydrogen absorption. During her visit, Veronica is modelling deuterium ordering in multimetallic systems and applying Reverse Monte Carlo methods to X-ray and neutron total scattering data to understand local structural changes and their implications for hydrogen-driven phase transitions.
Outside of work, Veronica enjoys running, hiking, and climbing, as well as experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
Visited – Summer 2025
Supervisor: Dr Magnus Hörnqvist Colliander (Co-supervisor: Dr Sheng Guo)
Home institution : Chalmers University, Sweden
Yao has been pursuing his doctoral studies at Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) since 2022. His current work focuses on quantitative characterisation of local lattice distortions (LLDs) in bcc-structured refractory high-entropy alloys using total scattering techniques. By using neutron and synchrotron source combined with pair distribution function analysis, Yao aims to quantify LLDs in these alloys and elucidate their structural origins.
Outside of work, Yao enjoys playing guitar and video games.
Visited - Autumn 2024
Supervisor: Associate Professor Kirsten Jensen
Home institution : University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Tobias joined the group in the Autumn of 2024, as a visiting PhD student from the Nanostructure group at the University of Copenhagen. During his stay, Tobias worked on the analysis of X-ray total scattering and pair distribution function data for multimetallic and High-Entropy Alloy nanoparticles, with focus on developing Reverse Monte Carlo modelling approaches for such compositionally complex nanoparticle systems. After returning home to Copenhagen, Tobias has continued this work, in collaboration with the group.
Visited - Autumn 2024
Supervisor: Prof. Peter Hedström (Co-supervisor: Prof. Joakim Odqvist)
Home institution: KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
Monika graduated with an MSc Eng. in Engineering Materials Science in 2021 from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and continued her doctoral studies at KTH, at the Hultgren Laboratory for Materials Characterisation. Her work focuses on phase separation in duplex and ferritic stainless steels, and she has been using small-angle neutron scattering and total scattering techniques to better understand how certain heat treatments affect the lifespan of components made from such steels.
Outside of work, Monika enjoys staying active, particularly through gymnastics and skiing, and loves to travel.
Visited - Spring 2024
Supervisor: Ben Jolly and Lewis Owen
Tamanna Mishra is an undergraduate student in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, who has recently completed a Year in Industry at the Integrated Manufacturing Group. Her work supports the MOSAIC project, where she is developing interactive web-based tools to improve accessibility and user engagement for members of the research community. By integrating intuitive design with technical functionality, Tamanna’s contributions aim to enhance understanding and usability of complex research outputs, ensuring that key insights are more broadly available and impactful.
Tamanna is currently undertaking a summer internship as part of the Royce Undergraduate Internship scheme.
Internship - Summer 2025
