Meet the Teams

Welcome to MatSoc Sports! As a society, we currently have 3 football teams available to play for in the campus leagues - FCC FC have an 11s team and two 6s teams. We also have scope to run training sessions and get involved in netball games through our now disbanded netball team, the Hadfield Honey Badgers. Please contact us if you'd like to be part of one of our sports teams, all ages and abilities are welcome!

FCC FC

We are a friendly group of guys ranging from first years to postgraduates that formed in 2018. We train once a week on a Sunday and play 3 matches a week in the Campus Leagues. Everyone is always up for a good game and the league plays to a decent standard - being part of the team is great if you want a bit more of a challenge than a casual kickabout. After a steady improvement we are looking to be better than ever before!

Hadfield Honey Badgers

We were a newly formed team in 2019, competing in the mixed campus league on a Tuesday, and training every week at the Sheffield Girls School on a Thursday evening. Unfortunately, we did not have enough interest to sign up for the 23/24 season of Campus Leauges, but please get in touch if you're interested in departmental netball.

Sport Socials

In the past few years, and prior to the pandemic, we have hosted multiple sports socials, including Angels & Demons, Pub Golf, and Tight & Bright. These are nights out where both teams are invited, they are usually themed and are always a great time to socialise within MatSoc Sport, have a good time, and celebrate a big win! Sports socials were a new addition in 2019 and will be made more frequent than ever as they are always a great way to meet fellow MatSoc students. Details for these nights are advertised in sports group chats - contact us if you'd like to get involved!

The People in Charge

We currently have two committee members dedicated to sport. Throughout the year we hope to improve the level of sport played within MatSoc and to encourage as many people as possible to join one of our teams. We are always looking for new social ideas so don't hesitate to contact us with any suggestions or general question questions you might have about sport within MatSoc as we are always happy to help.
