You don't need to buy your books before you get to uni as you might be able to pick up second hand copies, and you'll get a copy of Callister when you arrive. However, we're often asked about the books we believe will be useful for your course.
Callister and Rethwisch
This textbook it covers almost all the essential content for the course and many lecturers may follow it quite closely. Definitely a staple and a book you will use over and over again.

Ratner, Hoffman, Schoen and Lemons
A good but large textbook which covers some of the content in the first year biomaterials module. This book is likely to be more useful to students who are interested particularly in biomaterials.

This textbook offers a broad range of metallurgy content, from the very basics to slightly more detail.
Atkins, de Paula and Keeler
An easy to understand textbook which covers areas of the chemistry and thermodynamics modules in first year. This is a book you could consider buying and at least can be first on your list to look at in the library.
West
This book is an excellent resource for crystallography and contains most of the information you'll need for the first and second year crystal chemistry modules.
Holman
One of the most popular heat transfer textbooks, with clear, accessible content and a range of examples. This book is of particular help with the second year heat transfer module.
Young and Lovell
Stroud
This textbook walks you step by step through essential maths and even has linked online content if you buy the book. Especially good for those who haven't done A-level maths, but also worth it if you have. A great resource for when you get really stuck. Students who need additional support with their maths will be provided with a copy of this book.
