Defining, exploring and breaking down barriers to filmmaking in Sheffield.
2021 – 2023 / Sheffield / in partnership with various community organisations and independent filmmakers
Screen rights brought together a consortium of stakeholders to explore spatial barriers to to filmmaking in Sheffield. The project's initial outputs, produced across two student Live Projects, were backed up by a follow-on research project coordinated by Live Works. The principal output was - fittingly - a film: drawing on interviews with several Sheffield filmmakers, the piece proposed ways in which Sheffield could perform better for this industry by removing spatial barriers and creating inclusive spaces for creative practitioners.
The project was a collaboration between two student Live Projects teams, Live Works, the Universities of Sheffield and York, SADACCA, ISRAAC, Sheffield Live and various other local community organisations. Legacy outputs include a 'Screen Directory' for Sheffield and a mobile greenscreen, constructed by MArch students.
