UPDATE: LCA-RSIN will shortly become part of the UK LCA Network
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the LCA-RSIN showcase “Life Cycle Assessment as an Enabler of Clean Growth and Circularity” held at The Shard on 23 February 2026.
Throughout the day we shared insights and findings highlighting the vital role LCA will play in reducing emissions, improving efficiency and enabling circularity to support the UK’s move towards Net Zero.
We were delighted to welcome over 60 attendees from across academia, industry, and government to the event. The day was full of discussions, knowledge exchange, and future planning workshops as we shared LCA-RSIN’s key findings to date and recommendations for the future use of LCA in policy and regulation.
Our first session featured an introduction from Professor Rachael Rothman (PI for LCA-RSIN) and Dr Stuart Walker (Network Lead for LCA-RSIN). The team provided key updates on the network's achievements so far, including an overview of its diverse range of outputs, events and engagement activities.
This was followed by an introduction by our Working Group Leads, who shared the groups’ outputs and provided expert insights and highly detailed answers to key questions around our five main areas of focus:
Data
Skills
Methodology
Bio-based and Upcoming Materials
Accreditation
For the morning’s keynote we were treated to a fascinating presentation from Arun Rao, Principal Policy and Programmes Officer at the Greater London Authority (GLA). In the session he discussed the whole-life carbon requirements policy for major building projects in the GLA and the practical reality and impact of integrating LCA into policy.
During the lunch break there was an opportunity for attendees to visit the Working Group stations to network and learn more about each group. This was followed after lunch by a panel discussion with the Working Group Leads who gave a deeper insight into the groups activities and findings as well as answered questions from the audience.
The afternoon keynote was presented by Camilla de Ste Croix, Head of Embodied Emissions Reporting at DESNZ, who discussed the Low Carbon Products team’s recent consultation and findings on growing the market for low carbon industrial goods.
Following another short coffee and networking break, we held four workshops on the topics of:
LCA’s Role in Achieving Net Zero
AI: The Role of AI in LCA
Harmonisation: Aligning Initiatives
Adoption of LCA: Learnings from the Construction Sector
We will share the conclusions from these workshops once they are ready.
The day concluded with final remarks from Rachael Rothman who summarised some of the key findings from the day and highlighted the recommendations and practical steps to enable LCA to become a vital tool in support of the UK’s Net Zero transition.
We are very grateful to all those who contributed and facilitated the event, our Working Group Leads, and especially our speakers.
