We aim to:
Provide research-based evidence and insights to support policy towards Net Zero.
Bring together stakeholders to identify challenges, improve harmonisation, and develop a vision for the best use of LCA in policymaking.
Be a hub of knowledge exchange between policymakers, industry, and academia.
Provide a network-of-networks to support practitioners and advance the field.
LCA-RSIN is led by a diverse group of partner institutions: the Universities of Sheffield, Bath, Manchester, and Warwick, the National Composites Centre, Tata Steel UK, Unilever, and the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
Many other leading academic institutions and companies contribute to our Working Groups and Special Interest Groups.
As a network focused on regulatory science, engagement with policymakers is key to our success.
We have a dedicated Policy Lead and work closely with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), as well as other government departments and devolved administrations, to ensure our work directly informs and supports policy.
LCA-RSIN is funded by Innovate UK. We received Discovery Phase funding in 2024 and, following a successful application for Implementation Phase funding, were awarded this in December 2024. The Implementation Phase of the network launched in January 2025.
