Helen's research aims to develop next-generation digital design tools and discover new, resource-efficient structural forms.

Linwei He
Lecturer in Structural Engineering

Linwei's research uses optimisation in structural design and analysis to reduce the carbon footprint in new buildings as well as to protect and repair existing structures.

The immense contribution of Professor Matthew Gilbert to the work of this group is acknowledged. He pioneered many of the core layout optimization techniques, was the driving force behind the formation of this research group and inspired many innovations, as can be seen by his numerous publications. Professor Gilbert sadly passed away in 2025.
