Volunteering & Student Fundraising

Sheffield Volunteering

Sheffield Volunteering supports students to get involved and make a positive difference in local communities, with charitable organisations, schools and community groups.

Why volunteer?

- Make a positive difference to the lives of others

- Benefit your own wellbeing

- Feel a sense of purpose and belonging

- Build your confidence

- Meet like-minded people and make life-long friendships

- Connect with your city, its people, green spaces & wildlife

- Gain and develop skills to improve your employability (Volunteering looks great on your CV and research has proven that you are more likely to get a job if you have volunteered in the past!)

- Enhance your student experience!

How can I get involved?

There is something to suit everyone according to interests, availability and aspirations.

You could join a student-led project, find a role with a local Sheffield charitable organisation or have a go at microvolunteering (easy to access and low commitment activities)! Many roles are currently remote so can be done from home.

All volunteering activities are free and if you’re an undergraduate student, can count towards your HEAR.

If you have any queries, read our FAQs or contact us via one of the methods below - staff are working remotely, but still more than happy to assist you!

See and apply to all volunteering activities on our website!

Sheffield RAG (Raising & Giving)

RAG stands for 'Raising and Giving’.

Sheffield RAG is a working committee of students who organise bundles of fundraising opportunities every year. All fundraising is completely student-led, this means that the committee, and student groups they work with, choose exactly which events they want to run, and the charities that benefit.

Upcoming Events

Come back later in the year for more exciting news on upcoming fundraising events!

Adopt a Charity (AAC)

RAG’s ‘Adopt a Charity’ scheme works with clubs, societies and committees to help you fundraise for good causes of your choice.

We can help you organise your own fundraising events having helped numerous student groups organise everything from virtual quizzes, Give it a Go classes and fitness challenges to virtual hitchhikes, game-athons, concerts and more!

Sports clubs and societies can claim back up to 45% of their fundraising for their own club or society account too.

Plus, we'll do the work of donating the money you raise to your chosen good cause on your behalf! We can help with things like planning, budgeting, marketing, resources and legal stuff.

E-mail adoptacharity@sheffieldrag.com for more info!

Please be aware that small scale fundraising events must send in their request for fundraising support at least 10 days before they wish for their event to take place and larger events must send through their request at least 4 weeks prior to their chosen event date.

RAG Reps

Interested in fundraising and want to develop your knowledge and skills? Become a RAG Rep!

With support from our student committee and staff, you can learn fundraising skills, make new friends, and be an integral part of some of our biggest events (plus, if you’re an undergraduate student, it counts towards your HEAR.)

E-mail ragreps@sheffieldrag.com to get involved!

Bummit

Bummit are a sub-committee of Sheffield RAG who organise two landmark charity hitchhikes each year and recently organised the world's first virtual charity hitchhike.

We’re hoping to organise an in-person hitchhike within the UK in June 2021 providing that the evolving pandemic allows for hitchhiking being a safe and viable option in June 2021. We’ll be providing online updates on our mystery summer event throughout Semester Two via the links below.
