You can screen films at Film Unit too! Our 390-seat Nelson Mandela Auditorium located in the Sheffield Students' Union Building is the perfect venue if you want cinema-quality audio and visuals. We have Dolby 5.1 surround sound, an 8.5 m screen, and a professional DLP projector capable of handling DCPs.
Please see below for more details:
Film Unit does not handle external screening enquiries. For more information please read the Students' Union Event Hire Page and get into contact with the Students' Union Events Team at su-events@sheffield.ac.uk. Auditorium hire rates start from £663.
If your society wants to screen a film on a different day than our regular programming days (currently Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays), please fill out the Sheffield Students' Union Event Enquiry Form.
Film Unit requires a £75 fee for staffing a screening with a House Manager, Fire Officer, and Projectionist for general screenings. This fee is waived if the event booked is for charity.
Film licensing can be done via Filmbankmedia under the Students' Union's blanket licence, provided the screening is free. Otherwise, Film Unit can source a licence for your film independently. This tends to cost from £120 - £200. Please see the Society Support Hub for more details regarding licensing, and get into contact with the Students' Union Events Team at su-events@sheffield.ac.uk.
