Each engineering department will have a student society, but there are also specialist societies such as Women In Engineering and Engineers Without Borders. Taking an active role in a society is a great way to widen your network, and develop organisational and leadership skills. Try to look beyond the ‘social’ activities provided by a society and join one which will add value to your skillset!
The network of friends and mentors I have built because of my roles (in societies) constantly pushes me not just towards being a good engineer, but also towards becoming the best version of myself.
Aditi Reddy, Women in Engineering Vice-President, 2019-20
Looking back on how far the Society has come, I am incredibly proud and grateful of what we have achieved as a Committee. I could not have hoped for a better group of people to help spread EWB’s aim of working towards sustainable engineering and make achieving that goal this year such a joy!
Alastair White, EWB Sheffield President, 2019-2020
