Biography

Iain Coldham was born in Sandbach, Cheshire in 1965. He was educated at Sandbach School then at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained a first class honours degree (BA) in Chemistry in 1986. He remained at Cambridge to complete a PhD in 1989 under the supervision of Dr Stuart Warren. At the end of 1989 he moved to Austin, Texas where he carried out postdoctoral research with Professor Philip Magnus. In 1991 he was appointed to a lectureship in organic chemistry at the University of Exeter and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1998. In 2003 he moved to a Readership at the University of Sheffield and was promoted to Professor in 2008.

His current research interests include the development of new synthetic methodology with chiral organometallic compounds and the application of dipolar cycloaddition reactions to the synthesis of alkaloid natural products.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, walking, tending an allotment and attending Christ Church Fulwood.
