The Citadel of Exchange

This project proposes the construction of a city within a city on the former Castle Market site. This new Citadel will facilitate social, cultural, skills and knowledge exchange, abandoning the use of standardised money to promote alternative forms of economy, including bartering, skills, service and time exchange. The Citadel Wall will act as a filter to the rest of Sheffield and accommodate a wide range of uses and occupants, including art studios, workshops and live/work units. The Citadel will grow organically inside the wall, with The Centre of Exchange at its heart, offering an auction house, material exchange and community theatre.
