I am an applied economist working on research areas at the intersection of agriculture, food systems, nutrition and environmental sustainability. My current areas of interest include food markets,  inequalities in foods systems, food and nutrition policy and sustainable diets.

I lead the Indian Food Systems for Improved Nutrition (INFUSION) project that seeks to strengthen rural food markets in India to improve access of disadvantaged people to nutritious foods. Other projects I am currently involved in include the Nutrished Project in Ghana, the Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Academy, Action Against Stunting Hub in India, Indonesia and Senegal, and the National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre in the UK.

In 2023, I was leader of the drafting team for the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) report on 'Reducing Inequalities in Food Security and Nutrition'. In 2024, I was named by the Gates Foundation as one of 10 global 'Goalkeeper Champions' contributing to transformative progress on nutrition.

I was Managing Editor of 'Food Policy' journal during 2011-2015, and currently serve on the editorial advisory boards of Global Food Security and Food Policy.
