Exciting next steps for research in The School of Education

We've been celebrating the excellent research that goes on in the School of Education following the publication of the results of the Research Excellence Framework, we are proud of the research we've been involved in, of our partnerships and of the impact of our research on the world outside the University.

We are also very excited to be thinking about next steps for research. Over time, as academics leave and new staff join, the focus of our research develops. The role of the Research and Scholarship Committee is to support this change and growth. Following a period of consultation, which engaged with students and with staff, we launched seven new research clusters which we hope will provide support for some more great research over the next few years.

The Early Childhood Education Cluster focuses on children from birth to eight, in different settings, contexts and communities. Members are interested in global discourses and local policy and practice contexts, using their research to create pathways that support transformative change.

The Identity and Marginalised Communities Cluster cuts across the disciplines of disability studies; critical race theory; feminism; migration and psychology, bringing together different theoretical perspectives and lived experience to stand united in their commitment to rooting out discrimination in all its intersectional forms

The Education and Psychology Cluster brings together many different articulations, critiques and applications of psychology to build knowledge and understanding of learning and learning contexts; looking at the barriers and challenges people face in education and in informing socially just and ethical practice.

The Childhood and Youth Cluster is a research community built around interdisciplinary perspectives and conceptions of childhood and youth with a concern for their individual and collective opportunities to live well and to participate in society with recognition of their agency as social actors.

The Knowledge Systems and Practices Cluster focuses on knowledge systems and practices at the intersections of institutions and the public, research and pedagogy, science and politics whilst exploring the potentialities offered by theory-fiction and creative-critical scholarship.

The Literacies and Language Research Cluster is an interdisciplinary cluster with an overarching focus on literacies and language in everyday life and specific learning contexts, both online and offline.

The Pedagogy and Policy Cluster's research interests lie in the interrelationship between pedagogy and policy with an aim to synthesise theory and practice across a variety of settings driven by a deep-seated concern to address processes of marginalisation and minoritisation.

You can keep up with the activities of the clusters by visiting our research pages and following the Education Matters blog. and we look forward to sharing updates here too!

This poster captures the themes and research interests of our new Research Clusters. It was produced during our Research Cluster launch event in June.
