FAFSA Completion Night @ CCHS

CCHS is hosting the FAFSA Completion Night @ CCHS on January 3, 2024. This event will take place in the IMC (media center/library) 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

This event will offer hands-on help for students and families as you file the FAFSA. INvestEd representatives will answer questions as you work through the online application to ensure submission by the state and institutional deadlines.

Families must bring:

A few reminders:

1. FAFSA is required for ALL graduating seniors, starting with the class of 2024.

2. If you would like to opt your student OUT of FAFSA, there is a waiver form. Email Mrs. Kennedy for that information.

3. Please complete your FSA ID accounts prior to the event. It can take between one and four days for that account to be created. One account for the student and one account for the parent(s) are required.

Harrison REMC Cooperative Calendar Art Contest

Indiana K - 12 students are invited to enter the Cooperative Calendar of Student Art Contest for a chance to illustrate an award-winning wall calendar. Each year, 13 first-place winners and honorable mention winners will have their artwork featured in the calendar and will receive cash prizes.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS MARCH 29, 2024.

Murray State University's Commonwealth Honors Academy

JUNIORS! Interested in a FREE college education? Check this out!

It is time again for Murray State University's Commonwealth Honors Academy. The 2024 Academy will be held June 8 - June 29, 2024. The Academy brings together 90 rising high school seniors from Kentucky and Murray State's regional states for three weeks in an interdisciplinary living-learning environment. Upon completion of the academy, students will:

Interested but need more information? Murray State will be hosting two live Zoom informational sessions for students, families, and school counselors. The first session will be November 16 from 5:00 - 6:00 (Central Time). The second will be January 18, 2024 from 5:00 - 6:00 (Central Time). If you are interested in attending a Zoom meeting, let Mrs. Kennedy know and she will share the Zoom links.

Hoosier Girls State

"Learning Today to Lead Tomorrow."

Current junior female students: interested in a leadership opportunity over the summer?

The 82nd session of the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Hoosier Girls State weeklong leadership program will be held at Trine University in Angola, Indiana beginning Sunday, June 22nd through Saturday, June 29th, 2024.

The fee this year will be $350. Students are asked to submit $50 non-refundable application fee which must be submitted with the completed application.

Congresswoman Erin Houchin's Academy Day - September 9 9:30am - 12:00pm

Congresswoman Erin Houchin will be at Scottsburg High School on September 9 for her Academy Day! This opportunity is for Hoosier students interested in attending a United States Service Academy. These events are for middle and high school students, and their parents, who are interested in learning more about the US Service Academies - the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Coast Guard Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy - all of which offer a free college education to those interested in serving our country.

Carpenter Apprenticeship

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Council of Carpenter will be hosting an Open House on September 20. This will include a walkthrough for walls, forms, welding, milwright, ACRA Class hospitals, and more. This Open House could result in an amazing opportunity for an apprenticeship. This is teacher-parent conference day and you are off school! No excuse note necessary!

Purdue Poly - Open House

Purdue Polytechnic New Albany will be holding our Fall Open House on Tuesday, September 19th from 5 – 7 p.m. Students who are interested in earning a Purdue University degree can get a first look at all we have to offer. Students will have an opportunity to learn more about our Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering Technology. We present an applied approach to engineering with tons of in-person, lab-based learning along with access to the most up-to-date equipment and software. We’ll also have information available on tuition and the admission process.

LHDC Resources for Families!

LHDC will start accepting applications for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) on October 2, 2023. This program is aimed at helping households deal with the high costs of heating their homes by providing one-time payment towards their heat and electric bills. Even households that have utilities included in their rent may still be eligible for this program.

On September 19, 2023 during SRT (10:00 - 10:45) Mrs. Kennedy will be hosting the first post-grad planning session centered around First Generation College Students! Will you be the first in your family to attend college or university? Come to this session to learn more about what's ahead!

SCHEDULE CHANGES:

The last day for schedule changes will be: Friday, August 11, 2023.

Schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:

1. Missing a course required for graduation

2. Wrong course scheduled

3. Moving from honors to regular OR regular to honors

4. Counselor reasons

Schedules will not be changes for the following reasons:

1. You have no classes with your friends.

2. You don't have lunch with your friends.

3. You just want to flip/flop a class with a class.

Please keep in mind, Mrs. Felten and Mrs. Kennedy worked hard on balancing classes and every time someone changes, the number of students in class changes, which can make it difficult for teachers to do what they are there to do = teach.
